Air Conditioning Tune Up For Modern Family Homes
Friday, May 15, 2015
If you’re old enough to remember having grandparents that lived in homes having no air conditioning at all, you’ll remember thinking how odd that is and how they must be suffering in the heat. But the fact is, they would always tell you they’re fine and that they’re used to it.
People today in the United States have grown up with air conditioning in the home, and our bodies are used to being in the cooler air.
But it wasn’t all that long ago that air conditioners were a luxury and not very common in new built homes. One reason for this is because our community electric power plants couldn’t handle the load of air conditioning units in the homes.
The first air conditioner ever built was designed and built by Carrier in 1902 out of Buffalo, New York. The unit was built as a way to solve an application problem of a publishing company in Brooklyn.
And this wasn’t even possible until Nikola Tesla developed alternating current motors that made the invention of oscillating fans possible in the early 20th century.
By August of 2011, nearly 100 million U.S. homes had air conditioners in them with nearly 90% of new homes built with the central air conditioning system.
So it’s difficult for members of today’s generation to even imagine not having a way to cool down our homes. In fact, sometimes we are so spoiled and used to being cool that we become less adventurous outdoors, especially when it means spending time in the heat.
Instead, we spend a little time outdoors and soon seek the cold blasts of air in our homes or restaurants, shopping malls, or movie theaters. We have trouble when our air conditioners at home go out on us, and that’s understandable when you realize how adapted to cool air we’ve become.
Being able to control our indoor climate is truly a blessing. Today, we can not only control the temperature indoors, but the humidity level and the purity of air as well.
Our society is all about being in control of our surroundings. And new technologies are invented every day to make that happen more and more. Who knows what’s around the corner for us as far as our home systems go!
Air conditioning tune ups should be scheduled for at least once a year, but our units need regular attention. The system needs to be cleaned, the filters changed, parts lubricated, and everything checked to work efficiently.
We sure don’t want to have to deal with break downs and have to suffer in the heat of summer for any length of time, so give us a call here at Curtis L. Gavel AC & Heating and get your air conditioning tune up scheduled today!
